gestational diabetes since start

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at week 8 and since then I had followed strict diet and was on metformin initially at night. Now at 34 week I am on twice a day metformin dose and still maintain diet. I had read that once my progesterone injection will be stopped at 34 weeks the sugar levels will settle down but still the readings post meal are going 170 ...I do a walk of 30 40 minutes post meal but now walking is getting difficult for me... when do I expect to get things normal?
