Hello dear Parents! I need your suggestions. My daughter is 9 years old and she is not very expressive through words. She doens't vocalise her thoughts, feelings and emotions to us. But she is very good at expressing herself by penning down her thoughts through poetry, diary writing etc. How do I make her voice out her concerns?

Gayatri Vij I do understand your concern. Not all children feel comfortable verbalising their feelings. That's perfectly fine. As long as she is not suppressing her thoughts and give it a vent through writing, it's perfectly fine. Hone her skills and give her age appropriate books to read. Also you can help her refine her skills in poetry by introducing her different poetic devices. Motivate her and praise her when she reads out her thoughts to you. Hope this will be of help to you.

Gayatri Vij Your concerns are genuine and valid. Some children do not share their thoughts out for the fear of being judged or ridiculed. You can help her by motivating her through her strengths and in this case writing. Besides this when you go out to a mall or for dining out, let her order her food on her own, or buy her clothes of her choice . Praise her for sharing her thoughts to you. Ask her opinion on decisions pertaining to her. These tips should help you make her feel confident.
