Hi, I have a 6 yrs old son.  He is a special child with ADHD problems as being examined by Dr. (Child Pshycologist) recently. The thing is, his grasping power is very high if he is interested in that particular topic, if not, then, he pay less attention; learning technique is very fast like spellings, words reading and making sentences etc. Verbally, he is far advance than his frens in the school as said by the teachers.  But the main problem I am, as a mother, facing is, I've to make him sit with me forcibly (just to make daily  routine for him to study), and he'll never do his work (say homework, writing) on his own. In simple word, no attention at all. So, pls help me out.......

Hi Usharani! I appreciate ur efforts, u r doing a wonderful job. As far as attention span of kids with ADHD is concerned I understand it is difficult to make them sit at one place for even 5 minutes. U cud work on increasing his attention span by giving small instructions and helping him to follow it for ex brush your teeth. Let him be independent and appreciate on successful completion of a task. U cud read out picture books to him discuss it. Then u cud gradually read story books of his favorite characters whenever he likes. U cud play games with him like playing cards, dominoes, ludo, board games colouring activity, stringing of beads etc. u cud tell him to wait for his turn. On sitting at a stretch for 10 minutes or more u cud praise the child and keep motivating in between by saying u r doing a brilliant job. Ur child is a bundle of energy and joy just the right channelization of his energies is required which needs ur patience, love and motivation and praise. All d best!
