hi Ananthi! u must be getting weekly or monthly newsletter from school regarding the chapters that will be covered . first and foremost a child should be thorough with the chapter. make her read it 3-4 times in a week. then underline important points, spellings, find out their meaning and then read the chapter again to get a better perspective. let her do research on it by surfing on net, reading more books for detailed explanation and exploring the surroundings, giving examples from day to day life, making a flowchart or a diagram to get a schematic flow . also revision would help in better retention. if possible make the child visit places which could give better idea to the child by making her see things in real such as a zoo, park, sanctuary, museum, nursery.. etc. also she could do experiments or make a small project related to the topic. for instance the topic is Plants , she could sow seeds herself and observe it grow everyday. she could visit a nursery or even collect fallen leaves from the park to talk about uses of leaves . for instance make their impression on paper by coloring these in paints and then pressing them on paper. also u could give her examples of how leaves of mango and Ashoka plants are used for decoration , palm leaves for making roofs of kachcha houses , some leaves are used for feeding birds, animals and insects ;betel leaves are uses as paan ;phalsa leaves when stitched could make plates and bowls etc. so giving examples from day to day life would help the child relate info and understand better . hope this helps!
