Hi Bhavani, if your child has completed 6 mnths, you can start on mashed bananas, boiled and mashed potatoes, and pureed apples as these are the safest foods--no allergies, easy to digest. Avoid any packet milk till okayed by your doctor, so ideally avoid rice porridge too. Milk can be highly allergy causing and cause stomach upsets. You can though start on rice cerelac. But still talk to your paediatrician first.

Bhavani, I agree with Monika here. Even though suji kheer and rice kheer are traditionally popular infant foods in Indian culture, I don't think they are a good idea as they will require you to use top milk. You can also give boiled and mashed veggies such as ghiya/lauki, tinda, tori. All easy to digest. just add a pinch of salt and some ghee. do not give anything raw immmediately. As far as ajwain etc are concerned, again it is upto you. Ideally wait, till 8 mnths and then too introduce gradually.

Hi Bhavani. The best food to start off with your Lil one is moong dal water. This is light on tummy as well as gives lots of proteins. Our elders usually tell us to start with sheera which is bit smooth and easy to gulp for your angel. Don't give foods like ginger or ajwain too soon. Since these are known as heaty foods. And if you still do first add just a tiny bit of it. Jeera is best for health that could be added to her moong dal water when you give ghee ka tadka. Rest you can give mashed potatoes or a banana. Even smooth and a bit watery khichdi can also be good. But just go step by step.

Hi Bhavani. I would suggest you start with cooked and mashed vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes without adding any sugar or salt to start with. Vegetables have their own salt and sugar content found naturally in them and are healthier for your baby then added salt/sugar. Once your baby is used to and enjoys veggies, start on with fruits such as mashed apples and bananas. Pureed & mashed apples are really sweet and Im sure your baby will love it. So if you introduce your baby to the sweet stuff first, it is unlikely that she/he will want to have any boiled carrots at all. So try with the veggies first. I would also suggest to introduce one vegetable/fruit at a time to watch out for any allergies or intolerance. If your baby is fine after 4 to 5 days of introducing a particular veg or fruit, then you may introduce another type. Hold on with the ghee/butter for a few weeks as your baby may not be able to digest it right away. I recommend using a blender/ hand blender to puree the food you give your baby as this way you are sure that no lumps are there for your baby to choke on.
