Hi, My 2. 9 yr old daughter likes to eat only cheese spread and roti. I try to avoid giving it to her but she will not eat unless not given cheese spread. So at least 1 meal of the day for her is cheese spread and roti. Sometime parantha and cheese spread. Is it safe to give cheese spread on daily basis?

Hi Toshi, cheese is high in calcium and is good for health. But on the other hand cheese spread falls under the processed food category, so too much of it may have adverse long term health effects. Try and cut down on cheese, offer ketchup, butter (home made garlic butter) and the like. It may take sometime for your daughter to switch, but be patient and show her an empty container of cheese spread. Once she knows that its over, she may opt for something else. Also ensure that you give her a good brand of cheese spread-Amul, Britannia etc. Hope this helps :)

Hi Toshi. To make garlic butter, you need to chop some garlic (about 2-3 pods). Then in a pan, add about a teaspoon of oil. Add the garlic. Fry for a few seconds and add some butter (about 50 gms) to it. Keep the heat very low as it is easy for the butter to get burnt. Stir until the butter melts. Remove from heat. Once its slightly cool, remove the garlic pieces. by this stage the flavour of the garlic would have been absorbed into the butter. Spread this butter on toasted bread or mix with pasta :) You may make a little extra and store in the fridge for a couple of days.
