Hi Parents,   My child love to have junk food, I want him to understand that it’s not good for his health; I don’t want him to be obese. Please suggest how can i avoid junk food for my child?

Every urban parent is facing this issue. Even my daughter wants to have pizza and burgers. We are now avoiding junk at home completely, also engaging her in outdoor activities like cycling

Hi Nikita! There are many ways u cud curb intake of junk food at home. One: out of sight is out of mind. The more they are able to see these food items at home , the more their mind wud think about consuming it. Two: be role models urself, we can not expect children to sacrifice eating junk food when we adults ourselves can't control our taste buds. Three: serve them with options which appeals their eyes, taste buds as well as stomach. Four: whenever u plan for an outing eat food at home itself or pack food cooked at home. Five: do not give money to kids to buy chips, chocolates or burgers etc. Six: feasting shd be occasional and meant for special days. Like children scoring gud marks, birthdays etc Seven: u cud show pics of obese children on net and share long term effects of junk food. Eight: u cud monitor child's weight and share findings with the child which shd discourage him to involve in binging. Nine: encourage him to take up sports such as cycling, cricket, basketball, badminton, football, skating etc. hope these pointers will help u curb intake of junk food.

Hi Nikita, Shikha has given wonderful suggestions. Make some delicious and healthy food at home like steamed momos, ragi or raw rice puttu, sundal etc when they come from school with hunger. If they are served with one variety everyday and also if it is seved hot, they will start loving it. Soon they will forget chips and other sort. Also try keeping check like one burger a month or one pizza a month and so on.
