My Son is 17 months old and he has just started to build his own vocabulary. I am confused whether i should converse with him in Hindi or English. I am a working women and i want him to learn english but he spends all his time with his grand parents and a maid who talk to him in hindi. I don't want that when he joins school he doesn't understand what other says as now a days everybody speaks in english only. Need suggestion from fellow parents.

Hi Drishti Child when starts speaking can learn multiple languages easily. Your child can learn hindi, english and one foreign language(if u want) at this stage. Its good that your child is learning hindi because now a days children are struggling more in hindi. As u said now a days everybody speaks in english so is ur child gonna be.

Hi drishti! Congratulations on this important milestone for your child. Your son is at an important stage of developmentand speech is a key to expression. What is perhaps more important is letting him express more than the language. I understand your concern on picking english, but that shall happen too, its not either/or in this case as he's young and can pick up multiple languages at this stage. You could start with a word game everyday with him.
