Pls help me... my 5 year old hates milk in any flavor. I know that i can give him milk products like curd and paneer but i think that it will not compensate the amount of calcium available in a glass of milk.

Hi M,children between 4 - 8 years need 1000 mg or 1 gram of calcium every day. 250 ml milk contains appx 300 mg calcium. One cup of yogurt contains a similar amount of calcium. A medium sized egg would contain about 55 mg. One cup of paneer would contain about 200-400 mg calcium, depending upon the quality / source. Other calcium foods include cheese, soybean, calcium fortified orange juice, almonds, chickpeas (chana),spinach, broccoli, kale, eggs and fish, and milk ice cream.

Yes it can be done but it will take some time. But before tht Its important to know ur child's medical history. Has he ever been allergic to milk? Has milk ever caused any kind of unwanted discomfort in d child like vomitting, stomachache, bloating etc. if yes, d disliking he has developed over yrs wud take some time n effort to change into liking. U mite have to sit n discuss d importance of milk. Show him d possible ways milk can be consumed. Cook up stories how his favorite cartoon characters like bheem have had milk n have become superheroes. Give him milk in attractive glasses with his favorite cartoon characters photos on it . N to begin with small quantities shd be given n if being able to finish it he should be praised n rewarded. n while he has having milk u can divert his attention to something whr he forgets wat he is having. If he likes chocolates u can add chocolate flavor. But at no step he shd be forced as this could cause further aversion. n next day too it shd be done in similar way till d time he develops liking for milk. U can slowly increase d quantity. All d best!
