Hi parminder, prepare a checklist on things to do the previous day and on the day before going to school with the help of your son. For a few days help him follow-through. Gradually he can take over. In my son's case we have a planner (diary) with the school schedule, important school events, important class events, after school activity, homework due everything is marked with the help of the school calendar. So anytime he refers the planner to pack his bag and completes the school work. I include other reminders which is not school related. For one year you prepare the planner and give it to him. Once he finds the effectiveness of it, he can make his own from next year. Teach him to stay organized. He will learn to follow. Hope this helps.
