Putting fingers in mouth at this age is very common... Even my baby does it and i have been told that he will gradually let go of this habit over a period of time.. Pacifiers are generally not adviced as they can lead to infections.. If you still feel that you can manage the hygiene/ sterilization etc you may go ahead..

My son Is 5 1/2 years old and not given up thumb sucking. Everyone told its common in this age and he will forget it slowely, but that day has not come yet. I personally feel that we moms should take steps in right time to stop it. Story telling or showing examples of worst toothing will help them to understand the importance and they may slowly decide to giveup thumb sucking.

Hi Misba.. if your baby is sucking thumb then you can give pacifier as stopping the pacifier habit is in your hands totally.. I agree with Yamini.. I did the mistake of believing my doc when she said my daughter will stop sucking her thumb gradually and now she is 12 months old but the habit is still there! :(

I think pacifier would be a better option than letting your baby continue with sucking the thumb.... I am myself planning to get one for my daughter as it is hard to get rid of thumb sucking habit at a later stage... talking from personal experience, me and my brother left thumb sucking after higher secondary despite the numerous efforts taken by our parents since childhood...
