What is the right age to use a tooth brush? My son is 1. 5 years old and has 8 teeth as of now. I want him to start brushing because he drinks a bit sweet milk at midnight. When i try brushing his teeth he wants to hold brush himself and start chewing it. Pls suggest how could i make him learn the same.

Hi Parul! As soon as the child starts with semi solid food one can begin with brushing of teeth. There are special soft brushes for kids or u can use finger brushes. U can brush child's teeth twice in a day , once in the morning after waking up and once after food at night. Make the child rinse his mouth with water after every meal during the day. If the child has milk, after dinner u can clean child's teeth with wet muslin cloth. this will wipe off all the milk. If possible avoid adding sugar to milk at night as it might lead to tooth decay. Hope this helps!

There are different types of nuke brushes available in market for different number of teeths and age group. You can find those in local maternity/ baby shops like mom & me. I used to brush my twins from 1 year only as right brushing is important for healthy teeths & gums.

Hi, this is Dr. Monica Lall. I am an orthodontist. As soon as teeth erupt, one should start brushing the kid's teeth. Let the baby brush first and then start brushing his teeth telling him that you are going to take out all the germs. After brushing, don't give sweetened milk because this will increase the chances of developing cavities.
