tetanus needed or not?

hi all.. jst hd a small query.. my daughter fell down twice while walking on the road n bruised her knee a little... do i need to get her a tetanus injection or not... when is an tetanus injection required.. plz advice.

Dear Jasmine. Tetanus is normally given when the cut is deep or when the surface where the skin came in contact with, was very dirty with soil and manure. Since your daughter had a small bruise, you could take a decision keeping in mind that she fell on the road, which is usually very dirty. To be on the safe side, you could speak to her doctor, who will guide you accordingly after examining the bruised knee. If your daughter takes a tetanus shot, she will have some side effects such as pain around the injection area, headache or even an allergic reaction. Please find out the possible side effects too before you decide on a shot. Hope this helps. Take care.
