thumb sucking

Thumb sucking- my son is almost 3 yrs 2 months... he developed a habit of thumb sucking and it is grown with time, we parents tried many means to get rid of this habit but my child is getting stubborn day by day and starts crying if we remove this thumb or asks him to remove this.. is it quite normal... how can this habit be brought to normal..

When ur child is do so he is thirsty that time. Give him water , juices or anything he want to eat or drink that time. My cousin is also having the habit upto 11 years when we ask her than she said her mouth getting dry than se use to this habit. But whenever she feel like do that thing again than she drinks water juices etc that time u try this for ur kid.

yeah I know it is most of the time because of thirst and hunger.. but as I ask him to have something at the time when he suck his thumb he resist everything and not willing to have anything. in night while sleeping also he sucks his thumb badly.. will this habit will go with time or it would grow and child will become more rigid should I stress more on getting rid of this habit or occasionally speaking on this is OK.
