What is the right age for sending your kid to a Play School?

1 to 3 years

My daughter is 16 months old. She is a hyperactive toddler. I was thinking of sending her to a play school sometime when she would be 2. 5 yrs of age. But, my friend (a mother of 2) suggested to send her at an age of 1. 8 yrs. I am in a dilemma now. 1. 8 is too young for a toddler to see school. She is not even toilet trained and takes a lot of time and effort to finish her meals. She talks in her own language that only her family understands. I am scared and not convinced with this suggestion at all.

Hi Sunayana! Age being an important criterion, there are a couple of other things to look at while choosing to send your child to a preschool. One of them is toilet training as pointed out by you. Again, good preschool will not make it mandatory, but it's always better if a child understands to use the toilet. Its also important that the child is able to speak, and can ask for water, food, or may inform in case of any problem/need. Sound health, status on allergies is also important to look at and to be informed to a preschool. In case these criterions are met, you may send your child to a preschool between 20-24 months too.

Dear Sunayana! A 16 months old hyperactive child is difficult to take care of I can understand. But the option of sending them to playgroup at this age should be thoughtfully exercised keeping in mind is it going to help ur child and is this serving the reason why u wud like to use this option. Keepin

Keeping in mind the pros and cons of sending a child to play group at this age and whether the child will be happy at home or school the decision should be taken.
