Hi Pradnya, there are no gender-specific books for children. You may introduce the books on Panchatantra, Aesops Fables, and other Indian folklore. Avoid the fairytales, as the portray women/girls as dainty damsels in distress waiting for prince charming to come and rescue them.

Well we grew up reading fairy tales. Nothing wrong in them. 3 yr old should start with books with big letters. Phonics books. Classics. 11 yr old would probably read different types. Find out if she likes classics. My son is 9 and he lives the Harry Potter series. He is also reading Secret Seven. Encyclopaedias are also interesting.
