Global Day of Parents

Family is a fundamental unit of a society, with parents and children being pillars of the same. Right from the time a child is born, parents are an ideal to him/her. Parents are the first school of the child and have a direct as well as an indirect influence on the child’s growth and development. Parents do a lot for their children and hence the United Nations took up on the responsibility of dedicating a day to honour them. This day was proclaimed by the United Nations Assembly in 2012 and ever since became a global tradition. Global Day of Parents 2018 will be celebrated on 1st June to honour parents throughout the world.
Significance Of Celebrating World Parents Day
Parents play a critical role in the lives of their children and share the primary responsibility of nurturing and protecting the child in every way. For complete and harmonious development of their personality, children should grow up in a family environment where love, happiness and understanding blooms. Parents also remain at the centre of social life ensuring the well being of their children, educating them and socializing them for being caring towards youth and old. This day is observed to mark respect for our parents for all that they do for us.
Parents Day in India will also be observed on 1st June 2018 to celebrate and honour the sacrifices our parents make in order to pave a better way for us. This is why this day shouldn’t be restricted to just one day but should be celebrated every day. The way our parents make us feel special, it is also our duty to make them feel special in whichever way we can.
There are many ways to celebrate Parents Day and make your parents feel special. Here are some Parents Day activities that you can take up in order to shower some love to your parents.
-
Jot down your feelings:
If you have a toddler in your house, make sure you explain him/her the importance of parents. You can even teach your child to write down a letter for you and your partner, while you pen down your feelings towards your parents on this special occasion. The family can get together and celebrate this day by exchanging gifts and letters -
Read together:
There are many working parents who usually do not get enough time to spend with their children. This is why, this day gives a golden opportunity to parents and their children to spend some quality time together. Reading sessions can be held during the day time where you can read a book that will suit your child’s age as well. This will help in bonding over an informative session, while the day can be wrapped up with a hearty dinner -
Picnic time:
You can pack a picnic bag and head out to the beach or the park and spend time with your little ones to mark this occasion. But if time and budget permits you, pack a suitcase and head off for a quick trip over the weekend to spend quality time with your family, bonding over various things -
Gardening:
Parents can take up this activity and have their children involved, which will be a fun task that will help bonding become stronger. Weekends are the best to start this activity, which is also great because Parents Day happens to fall on a Friday this year. Not only you and your children will get closer, you can also teach some botany to your child while growing some greens in your backyard. Nurturing and taking care of the plants is a good way to teach your child some responsibility -
Dinner time:
This is one activity, which can become in to a tradition if you assure to stick to it. Since everyone is busy with their routine, families these days hardly get time to spend together. This is why you can make a rule in your family that dinner time is when everyone gets together and has at least that meal with each other. This will give you a good chance to catch up with your children’s day while your children can get to know about you and your partner’s day, thus, enhancing bonding
Follow these activities and create many of your own to keep your family in a close knit bond. A family cannot function without parents, which states the importance of having parents in one’s life. Parents work hard to hold the family together and also shape up their child’s life in amazing ways, which is why the efforts of parents must be appreciated not just one day in a year but every day for the rest of our lives. Let us take some time out and honour our parents with love and affection from this day onwards and continue this tradition for the rest of our lives.
