Sharing and Caring--the Eco Friendly Way

T’is the season to be jolly!!! And like every festival, Christmas teaches us the meaning of giving and sharing. It also tells us that, if you have been good throughout the year, you will get a reward. Don’t we teach our kids the same thing every day? Be good and you shall earn good.
This Christmas let’s do something different. We keep doing the usual stuff otherwise—we go out and buy something for our child, our nieces and nephews and give it to them. But this year, why not create something and then gift it? Yes, the old fashioned way. Remember when we were young we used to actually make something and then try to gift it to our parents or our friends. That meant more than anything else. Let’s take a trip down the memory lane, and gift each child in our house, something recreated that are special and meant for them.

0-3 year olds
Two sided bib- Take two modern, bright fabrics. Give them a shape, cut and sew together. Add a colourful button to it or attach a fabric sticker. And trust me, no mother can have enough of these.

3-7 year olds
Hand Puppets: Hand puppets are really easy to make and perfect to gift, as this is just the perfect age for cognitive learning. You just have to find some colourful cloth. Trace out your hand on it and then cut it. You could give it any character you wish to--it could be a bunny, a mouse or anything. Give it a colourful nose, ears or a pom pom tail.
Headbands- Take an old and plain head band. You could choose your child or nieces favourite animal. It could be a rabbit or a lion. Cut out ears from felt and stick it with fabric glue to the headband. Or buy some pretty satin ribbons and cover the headband with it and decorate it with pretty flowers etc.

7-11 year olds
Flaunt it: If you don’t know what to do with your child’s old pair of jeans, make it look fashionable by getting some fabric paint and a stencil. Trace out a particular design all over the jeans and the paint it to give that special effect. And your jeans look good as new! All the funk will delight the budding rockstars!

11-15 year olds
Memory Quilt: It’s winter season and it is cold. Why not get that old quilt out of the cupboard, and get those favourite photographs of you and your child right from his birth to now and get it printed on it. Your child will sleep with lovely memories and sweet dreams.
And if you are running short of space, time and everything else, bake that favourite cake or make your child his yummy hot chocolate? After all Christmas means enjoying the sweetest things of life. Wishing all the goodness and happiness in your life.
