How to structure a child's routine

First of all it is important to understand what a structure is and why it is important for your child. Routines are important as these help children self-control. When parents provide structure to a child's everyday routine, they are improving parental control in an efficient and responsible manner to encourage the healthy growth and development of children.
Consistent and proper routines means activities will happen at about the same time and in the same way everyday which will provide comfort and a sense of security to children. The three main keys to building structure are
-
Consistency which means doing the same thing every time
-
Predictability - knowing what is going to happen
-
Follow-through
Some things to keep in mind while making daily routine children include
-
Be as clear and specific as possible.
-
Focus on specific behaviors and avoid vagueness as much as you can.
-
Start slow. You can start with one or two rules and add new rules as needed. Too many rules at once will be difficult to follow and enforce.
-
Rules should be flexible, realistic and fit your child's age and development. In fact, you can also sit together with your child and make routines.
