The changing face of parenthood

Parenting is a very challenging job because it comes with the responsibility of bringing up a socially and morally responsible citizen of future. Parents need to nurture the child, like a sapling is nurtured, to make it grow into a healthy tree--a tree that will give fruits as well as the much desired shade. But, we as parents, who are busy competing in this world, stressed to perform well, under peer pressure to achieve the zenith, juggling multiple roles sometimes forget to give the much needed attention to our little budding plant.
Think about it: how many times do we help our child make ‘a connect’ with our religious beliefs, culture, rich heritage, value systems etc? Isn’t our child living a life of solitude without much outdoor play, warmth of a family, and get-togethers with friends? We try to substitute our presence with material comforts but trust me it doesn’t have any value. Our love and care cannot be substituted!
Here are some small ways in which you can bring back the joys of parenting and also give your little one the values you wish to:
- Ensure you manage your time in such a way that it makes your child feel that he/she is the first priority.
- Express your feelings and make your child feel they he/she is everything for you.
- Make your child realise his/her value in your life. Talk often.
- Celebrate all festivals and religious ceremonies with fervor and involve your child in it. This will help pass the traditions on.
- Spend a few minute in prayer together.
- Sincerely spend some time with your child every day. During this time keep away all phones, laptops, gadgets, and just bond over a puzzle or walk in the park.
