As India will be celebrating its 75th Independence Day, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative undertaken by the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 long years of independence and the glorious history of its peoplel, culture, and belief system. This special Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Quick and Easy Recipe for Tricolour Idli

Tricolour idli is a new variation to the simple traditional idli! Indian food recipes are incomplete without spicy & flavourful Indian spices. This is a great recipe for idli that includes the colours of our flag – green, orange and white.

Ingredients For Tricolour Idli

  1. Rice – 3 cups
  2. Urad Dal (Split black lentils) – 1 cup
  3. Salt as per taste
  4. Spinach puree or peas Puree – 2 tbsp.(I prefer mixing both)
  5. Carrot puree – 2 tbsp.
  6. Oil for greasing

Method For Preparing Tricolour Idli

To prepare the tricolour idli, you first need to prepare the tricolour batter separately.

Method For Preparing Spinach Puree For Tricolour Idli

Follow these 5 simple steps to prepare spinach puree

  1. Boil the water in a pan and add the spinach to it
  2. Boil it for 5-7 min
  3. Drain the excess water and wash it with cool water
  4. Now grind it in a mixer into a smooth paste
  5. Take it out into a bowl and keep it aside

Method For Preparing For peas Puree For Tricolour Idli

Follow these 3 steps to prepare Peas Puree

  • Boil the peas for 10 minutes
  • Drain the excess water and grind it into the smooth paste
  • Take it out in a bowl and keep it aside

Method For Preparing For carrot puree For Tricolour Idli

With these 4 simple steps your carrot puree is ready.

  1. Wash the carrots and slice them into small pieces
  2. Now boil it for at least 10 minutes
  3. Sieve the excess water & wash it with cool water
  4. Grind it into a smooth paste

Method For Preparing Tiranga Idli

With these 13 easy steps your tiranga idlis will be ready in a jiffy.

  1. Wash and soak the rice and urad dal separately in lukewarm water for 2-3 hours
  2. Grind rice and urad dal in a smooth paste
  3. Mix rice and urad dal paste and keep it overnight or for 8-10 hrs
  4. Add salt to the batter and divide the batter equally in three different bowls
  5. Mix carrot puree in 1 section of the batter for the orange colour
  6. Stir it well
  7. Add spinach or peas puree to another section for the green colour
  8. Leave third section of batter as it is for white colour
  9. Now grease your idli mould with the oil
  10. Fill the idli mould with the different batter - each coloured batter separately
  11. Steam the idlis on a high flame for 10 minutes
  12. Take out the mould from the idli pan and leave it to cool for 5 minutes
  13. Now take out the idlis from the mould with the knife or spoon
  14. Your yummy ‘Tiranga idlis' are ready to serve with coconut chutney and sambhar

Parentune Tip:Make delicious tricolour chutney - Make coconut chutney, carrot or garlic chutney, green chutney.

Easy Recipe Of Tricolour Pasta Salad

Colours help make food more inviting &mouth-watering. Tricolour pasta salad is a great choice to make Independence Day more special.   1. Tri-colour pasta – 3 cups
  2. Red capsicum – 1/4 cup
  3. Green capsicum – 1/4 cup
  4. Black olives – 1/4 cup
  5. Green olives – 1/4 cup (optional)
  6. Broccoli florets – 2 cups
  7. Tomato sliced – 1 cup
  8. Boiled corn -1 cup
  9. Mozzarella cheese – 1 cup

Italian Dressing For Tricolour Pasta Salad

  1. Olive oil – 3 tablespoons
  2. Chopped parsley – 2tablespoons
  3. Vinegar – 2tablespoons
  4. Chopped garlic – 1/2 tablespoon
  5. Oregano – 1/4 tablespoon
  6. Chilli flakes – 1/4 tablespoon
  7. Dried basil – 1tablespoon
  8. Lemon Juice – 1tablespoon

Method For Preparing For Tricolour Pasta Salad

  1. Boil the water & cook the tricolour pasta for 15 minutes
  2. Don't forget to add a spoon of olive oil in the water so that the pasta doesn't stick
  3. Drain the pasta& wash it with cold water
  4. Steam the broccoli till it becomes soft
  5. Now in a big bowl, add the boiled pasta, steamed broccoli, chopped capsicums, sliced olives & tomatoes
  6. Mix all the Italian dressing ingredients & sprinkle the dressing on the pasta salad. You can sprinkle it according to your taste
  7. Store the excess Italian dressing in an air-tight container in the fridge
  8. Add the grated mozzarella cheese & mix well
  9. Serve this healthy & tangy yummy pasta salad

Quick And Yummy Recipe For Tricolour Pulav

Let's make this Independence Day more healthy & delicious with these Indian food recipes. This is a quick & easy Indian food recipe with amazing Indian spices. Cook the rice & prepare three different mixtures. Wrap the cooked rice in separate mixtures & arrange them in a bowl or serving plate. This lip smacking dish will bring a handful of applauses!

Ingredients For Orange rice For Tricolour Pulav

  1. Tomato puree – 1/4 cup
  2. Ginger paste – 1/4 spoons
  3. Cumin seeds – 1/4 spoon
  4. Turmeric powder – 1/4 spoons
  5. Red chilli powder – 1 spoon
  6. Salt as per taste
  7. Ghee – 2tbsp.

Ingredients For Green Rice For Tricolour Pulav

  1. Spinach or peas puree – 1/2 bowls
  2. Ginger & green chilli paste – 1tablespoon
  3. Ghee – 2tablespoons
  4. Salt as per taste
  5. Cumin seeds – 1/4 spoon

Ingredients For White Rice For Tricolour Pulav

  1. Ghee – 2tbsp.
  2. Cumin seeds – 1 spoon
  3. Chopped onion – 1/2 bowl
  4. Salt as per taste

Method For Preparing Tricolour Pulav

  1. Soak the rice for half hour
  2. Boil the water & cook the rice for 10 minutes
  3. Drain the excess water & keep the rice aside
  4. Divide the rice into 3 parts

Method For Preparing Orange Rice For Tricolour Pulav:

  1. Heat a frying pan & add ghee
  2. Add cumin seeds &ginger paste
  3. Stir it for 1 minute
  4. Now add tomato puree, red chilli powder, and salt and turmeric powder
  5. Cook it for 1 minute
  6. Add 1 section of cooked rice & mix it well
  7. Cook it for 5 minutes

Method For Preparing For Green Rice For Tricolour Pulav:

  1. Take a frying pan & pour ghee in it
  2. Heat it & add cumin seeds
  3. Now add the ginger & green chilli paste &sauté it for a minute
  4. For the green colour mix peas or spinach puree
  5. Sprinkle the salt & stir it
  6. Finally add another section of rice & mix well
  7. Cook the rice for 5 minutes

Method For Preparing For white rice For Tricolour Pulav:

  1. Heat a frying pan & add some ghee to it
  2. Add cumin seeds & onion
  3. Cook the onion till it become translucent or a little golden brown
  4. Sprinkle salt & stir
  5. Finally add the leftover rice & cook it for 5 minutes

Serving suggestion For Tricolour Pulav

In a serving plate or bowl, First place green rice, then white rice and finally top it with orange rice.Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves, lemon slices & chopped onions. And we are ready to serve.

Simple And Easy Recipe For Tricolour Sabudana Khichdi

Follow these simple steps to prepare another yummy dish for this Independence Day.

Ingredients For Tricolour Sabudana Khichdi

  1. Sabudana (sago) - 1 ½ cups
  2. Potatoes - 2 medium size (boiled and chopped)
  3. Roasted peanut powder - 6 teaspoons
  4. Green chili - 1 (chopped)
  5. Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  6. Ghee - 3 tablespoons
  7. Oil - 3 tablespoons
  8. Cumin seeds - 1 tablespoon
  9. A pinch of green food colour
  10. Asafoetida (hing) powder - ¼ teaspoon
  11. Few curry leaves
  12. Salt, sugar - as required
  13. Lemon juice - 1 ½ tablespoons
  14. Chopped coriander leaves - handful

Method For Preparing Tricolour Sabudana Khichdi

  1. Divide and soak each half cup of sabudana in three vessels overnight
  2. In one vessel add the green colour and keep the remaining two white
  3. Next day, you can see the pearls nicely soaked in water

Method For Preparing Green Layer Of Sabudana Khichdi

  1. In a kadai, add 1 tsp oil and 1 tsp ghee
  2. When it becomes hot, add a few cumin seeds, hing powder, curry leaves, chopped green chili
  3. Then add the 1/3 chopped potatoes and sauté for another two minutes
  4. Add green sabudana, mix well. Add 2 tsp roasted peanut powder, salt and sugar as required and mix well
  5. Add lime juice, mix well and add chopped coriander leaves
  6. Remove from gas and keep aside

Method For Preparing White layer Of Sabudana Khichdi

  1. In a kadai, add 1 tsp oil and 1 tsp ghee
  2. When it becomes hot, add little cumin seeds, hing powder, curry leaves
  3. Then add the 1/3 chopped potatoes and sauté for another two minutes
  4. Add one part of white sabudana and mix well
  5. Add salt and sugar, 2 tsp roasted peanut powder and lime juice mix well
  6. Remove from gas and keep aside

Method for Preparing Orange Layer of Sabudana Khichdi

  1. In a kadai, add 1 tsp oil and 1 tsp ghee
  2. When it becomes hot, add little cumin seeds, hing powder, curry leaves
  3. Then add the 1/3 chopped potatoes and sauté for another two minutes
  4. Add second part of white sabudana and mix well, add salt and sugar, 2 tsp roasted peanut powder, 1 tsp Red chilli powder, lime juice
  5. Remove from gas and keep aside

Serving suggestion For Tricolour Sabudana

Now in a plate arrange the layers-- first green, followed by white and orange to form a Tiranga

Parentune Tip: You can use the same puree of carrot, green peas and spinach for also making - chapatti, paratha, rava Dosa, and dhokla as per your wish.

Easy Recipes For Tricolour Juice & Tricolour Popsicle

Oh my! This write-up remains incomplete without dessert. Here's a recipe for a cooling, tasty and colourful juice and popsicle. I usually make orange, white and green juices using orange, banana milk and kiwi.You can change one or two fruits according to your taste and favourite colours.

Ingredients For Tricolour Juice & Tricolour Popsicle

Ingredients For Orange Juice For Tricolour Juice & Tricolour Popsicle

  1. Oranges - 2
  2. Sugar - 2 tbsp.

Ingredients For white juice For Tricolour Juice & Tricolour Popsicle

  1. Banana - 1
  2. Milk - 1/2 cup
  3. Sugar - 2 tbsp.

Ingredients For green juice For Tricolour Juice & Tricolour Popsicle

  1. Kiwi - 1
  2. Water - 1/2 cup
  3. Sugar - 2 tbsp.

Method For Preparing Tricolour Juice & Tricolour Popsicle

Method To Make tricolour Juice

  1. Squeeze the orange juice by hand or use a juicer
  2. Mix the sugar
  3. Strain it and keep aside
  4. Grind the banana and sugar to a smooth puree
  5. Add the milk and blend
  6. Strain and keep it ready
  7. Wash the blender and puree the kiwi with sugar
  8. Add water and blend again
  9. Strain it through a strainer and keep aside
  10. Serve in clear glasses to make a beautiful presentation for Indian Independence Day

If you do not want to serve as juice, read on for how to make tricolour popsicles.

Method To make Tricolour Popsicle

  1. Pour the orange juice into the popsicle mould to fill 1/3rd of it
  2. Let it freeze in the freezer for about 1 hour until it is partially frozen
  3. Add the banana milkshake on top of this juice
  4. Freeze again for another 1 hour
  5. Now add the kiwi juice to fill the popsicle maker
  6. Insert the sticks at this stage
  7. Freeze overnight or for at least 5 hours before serving for it to set

  • Orange color juice - Mango, Papaya
  • White - Lychee Juice, Sweetened coconut milk
  • Green juice - Honeydew, cucumber
