From Movies To Motherhood: Farah Khan Opens Up About Her IVF Journey

With every passing year in a woman’s life, societal expectations also increase. First marriage and then children, it's all a part and parcel of being a woman. For Indian filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, it was no different. However, it is her motherhood journey that makes her stand apart. Read to know.
As Farah’s professional life bloomed, she simultaneously battled infertility silently. Finally, she and her husband Shirish Kunder decided to embark on the journey to parenthood when she was 43. The couple resorted to IVF to turn their dream into a reality and surprisingly, they were blessed with not one, not even two, but three beautiful children — Czar, Anya, and Diva.
In one of her recent interviews with actress Debina Bonnerjee, she opened up about her somewhat unconventional pregnancy journey. "Shirish and I started talking about kids, and what we want to name them and how they will be and all that. When the doctor called I was 100 percent sure that we were going to be pregnant and she said, 'Listen, Farah, don't jump too high, I want you to be calm, you are pregnant but don't get your hopes up but it is multiple pregnancies" she shared.

Although they were very happy, the good news did come with some challenges. Farah opted for IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) when it was considered a massive stigma, and her age too was a concerning factor.
It all happened when she was shooting for her blockbuster movie ‘Om Shanti Om’. Amidst the shooting schedule, she had to rush to the clinic to make sure the procedure went smoothly. The emotional rollercoaster left her emotionally drained.
There was one person, however, who stood by her and took care of her comfort on the set. It’s none other than Shah Rukh Khan. Farah shared how he ordered a comfy couch for her and even comforted her on her low days. Shah Rukh was also present at the hospital when Farah gave birth, setting new benchmarks of friendship.
Apart from sharing about her IVF journey, Farah also emphasized the importance of the right nutrition in pregnancy. She followed a proper nutrition plan and sought frequent consultations from her nutritionist. This proved to be quite helpful as Farah did not gain excess weight during her pregnancy and though her stomach grew in size, which is quite natural during pregnancy, most of the nutrition was directed towards her womb. Farah gave birth to 3 healthy babies, each weighing 2.5 kgs.
