  1. Planning to watch a movie but, where a family hardly gets to interact? Why not encourage your child to record a weekend movie for the family during the day –a movie that aims at bringing out the natural humor, emotion, and togetherness and therefore create memories of a lifetime. What fun will it be for the family to watch the complete version at the end of the day! As a mom, make the event more special—watch the movie theatre style—popcorns, juice, snacks all laid out, the light switched off, phones kept away!
  2. While our children plan to call their bunch of friends over for lunch, we usually only supervise and slide our way outputting their fun and privacy above our own curiosity to know what they are up to, but it’s time to break the norm and gently break a few walls that teenage builds between parents and children. Children, at any age, love to talk provided they know that their privacy will not be taken away forever. Tell your child beforehand that you would love to interact with their friends at a casual level. Bring them the comfort of sharing their views on the many topics that may interest them...use your humor and tell them your teenage stories they can learn from keeping it meaningful yet short. Find your way out depending upon the kind of conversation you have been able to build up. The sense of familiarity with our children’s friends helps us bond better with our own child as it gives them a sense of approval for the kind of people they have chosen as friends and gives us an idea about the kind of friends our child has attracted. Let us not seclude them in the name of the privacy they demand. Your child will thank you for breaking the ice in the long run. We need to set new trends for a healthier tomorrow.
  3. Forget household chores for a day and just be a child with your child. Wake up late, eat junk in bed for breakfast, take a long lazy bath mid-afternoon and simply lounge around. Hang out in the evening over the door of your house, or near the railing, hands dug deep into pockets mulling over the mundane life, etc. For one day, forget being a mommy and be a friend instead.
  4. Do one thing you have never done with your child earlier—as wacky as sitting on a roller coaster ride, getting wet in the rain or simple as decorating the altar in the house. But you will need to take the initiative to push the child.
  5. Go out on a date exclusively with your little one. It can be a visit to the mall, a fast food restaurant, a coffee shop…with an agenda for the child’s happiness and no agenda for yourself. Indulge your child.
