Gums’ swelling is one of the common problems people often face. Gums are made of a tissue which is thick, fibrous and full of blood vessels, which is why when the gums swell it may protrude and bulge out and appear red instead of pink. When your gums swell it causes the irritation, sensitivity and bad ache. The gums may even bleed when you brush or floss your teeth. There are numerous causes of gum swelling; here is the list of the main causes of gum swelling.

Often many people ask how to reduce gum swelling. Here are some useful home remedies for swollen gums that will result in soothing the pain and swelling.

Warm and cold compresses
This method will give you quick relief from sore and swollen gums. The warm and cold compresses help reducing the pain and swelling. All you need to do is to soak the clean cloth in warm water and wring out the excess water. Then, hold it on your face for 5 minutes. Next, you need to wrap a bag of peas in a thin cloth and hold it on your face until the area becomes a little numb. You can repeat the process thrice a day -
Salt water
This is one of the oldest remedies for swollen gums. Salt inhibits growth of bacteria in the mouth and prevent infections. So, after you brush your teeth gently rub your gums with salt for a few seconds, and then rinse it off with water. Do it once every day. Another option would be to add 1 teaspoon salt to a glass of lukewarm water. Use it to rinse it off twice every day until the swelling is gone -
Turmeric
Turmeric has curcumin, which possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help reducing pain, swelling and inflammation. Also, it prevents bacterial activity to spread that causes several oral problems. You need to mix ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder with a little water to make a paste. And apply the paste on the gums with your clean finger. Wait until 5 minutes, and then rub gently for a minute. Then, rinse your mouth with warm water. Do it twice on a daily basis for 1 or 2 weeks -
Hydrogen paroxide
It helps to deplete the gum inflammation and ache. It also kills the germs and fight oral problems. So, what you need to do with it is to take 3 % of Hydrogen Paroxide solution ad water. Then swish the solution around the gum and teeth for 30 seconds and then you can rinse it off with warm water. Another option would be to make a paste by mixing Hydrogen Paroxide with baking soda and rubbing it for a minute then rinse it off twice every day
