How And Why Should You Allow Your Child To Have Fun And Explore Outdoors During Monsoon

Everything looks better when it's raining. Summer's scorching heat is banished by the monsoon. As children, we often enjoyed playing outside in the rain. We would make paper boats, do rain dances, and enjoy the weather. However, as parents, we no longer let our kids play in the rain. Perhaps it's because pollution levels have risen, new diseases have emerged this season, or simply because we're overly concerned about our children's well-being. Regardless of the reason, one thing is sure. Our children are not enjoying the monsoon as we did. In fact, children can have a great time exploring and playing in the rain provided they have dressed appropriately. This post explains why you should allow your child to play outside during the monsoon season. You can also find some precautions and ways for children to enjoy the monsoon.

What Are The Advantages Of Playing In The Rain?

Outdoor play has been shown to benefit children in numerous ways. Similarly, allowing children to play outside in the rain has many positive effects on their development. Children are able to fully reap the benefits of playing and exploring outside in the rain so long as they are dressed appropriately, which means they are wearing clothing that keeps them warm and dry.
The following are some of the benefits of playing in the rain:

1. Contributes to the enhancement of both physical and mental capabilities- While playing in the rain, children are able to develop their physical abilities at a faster rate. When they are playing outside in the rain, children need to be careful not to lose their balance because the ground can be slippery.  In addition to their ability to maintain a strong balance,  children will need to use critical thinking skills while managing risks and evaluating various activities. Depending on the age of the children, critical thinking can be as simple as choosing where to stand in wet conditions or how to / should it even be worth climbing the frame if it is too slippery or walking on muddy and mashy grounds. Other examples include.

2. Exploration of scientific concepts- Children gain a deeper understanding of nature through exploration and questioning. When you allow them to play in the rain, their first thought may be to wonder where the water is coming from. Eventually, they ask questions and gain knowledge regarding the water cycle, cloud formation, and weather changes. In addition, while walking over grassy areas in the rain or playing in the woods, they may encounter a variety of small creatures that only appear during wet weather. This sowed the seeds of curiosity and the desire to explore the animal kingdom and its natural habitats.

3. Enhances sensory perception- Raindrops can enhance the sense of touch and hearing in children. For instance, the wet, slippery surface heightens their sense of touch. Additionally, the rain's earthy scent can make them feel revitalized and energized by enhancing their ability to smell. Raindrops hitting the ground create a soothing pitter-patter in their ears, which helps them to unwind and de-stress.

4. Improves responsibility and independency- A child's self-confidence grows when he or she can go out in the rain because he or
she has learned how to deal with the situation on their own. When they're outside in the rain, they're on their own to keep dry and warm. After some trial and error, they'll figure out what clothes they need to wear, whether or not they should bring an umbrella, how to put on their raincoats and rainboots, and how to keep an eye on their feet so they don't slip.

Some outstanding outdoor activities for children on rainydays playing in the rain may not sound like much fun for adults, but it is a blast for kids!
The rain puts a magical twist on everything, and it can make even the most ordinary adventures extraordinary! Here are some tried-and-tested activities for kids to enjoy on a rainy day.

1.  Measuring rain- You can assist the child in constructing a rain gauge from a soda bottle, permanent markers, and a ruler. Allow the child to place it in the garden and measure the water level at arbitrary intervals. This will teach the child about rain measurement.

2. Walking in the rain on a rainy day- Go for a rainy-day stroll with your little one. Let the child go on their own if they're old
enough to do so. Encourage them to observe closely the beauty of nature when it rains. They can hear and smell things that aren't normally available on a sunny day when it rains. Allow them to splash around in the puddles without fear of getting muddy. Allow them to carefully examine the worms and other small creatures that they see on the sidewalk.  They'll learn more about drainage if you let them watch the water flow down the drain. Let them closely observe the rain-related behaviors of animals such as birds and dogs.

3. Encourage their creativity- The creative possibilities with mud are endless. Children love to get their hands dirty and make things out of sticky mud. Allow them to create mud art such as handprints and footprint castles. Remember to remind them of the importance of taking a shower once the job is done, though.

4. Boat races- Make a paper boat with your child and then challenge them to race it down a stream. This teaches them the concept of what floats and what sinks, in addition to being an entertaining activity. While it is fun, this also teaches them about the concept of
floating and sinking. Remember to have extra clothes and a towel ready when your child returns home from any of these activities so that they can quickly warm up and dry off. Also, instruct children to return home immediately if they hear thunder. Rainy days are
ideal for these activities, but stormy days are not.

Rain Play Safety Tips

It's better to take a few precautions rather than to ban children from having fun in rain.

  • After returning home from playing outside, they must take a shower.
  • Wearing clothing with full sleeves.
  • Make them use mosquito repellent patches or gel
  • Drinking boiled water.
  • Never let your child put on wet socks or shoes!
  • Helping them get the nutrients they need to boost their immune system by serving them hot soup.

Conclusion
The beauty of nature is enhanced during the rainy season. Please allow the child to enjoy themselves while we take the necessary precautions to keep them safe from the seasonal dangers.
