An 18-year-old teen, Jiang Jiaru, was abducted as a baby nearly two decades ago and is now demanding 6.77 million yuan (7.8 crore) as compensation. When he was just 8 months old, he was taken by three men from his village (Houyu Village).

Jiaru was with his grandparents when it happened. The men were armed dangerously with sticks and pincers. The grandma said her husband was violently attacked, leaving him in a pool of blood. She was too helpless to do anything as one of the men held an iron pipe against her neck, she recalled.

The poor baby was taken and sold by the abductors to a couple living in Jining. They split the 28,600 yuan (3.29 lakhs) that they received. It was revealed by the court that the fourth person, under the surname of Yuan, revealed the information about Jiang to the kidnappers, telling them he is mostly under the care of his grandparents as the parents worked in another city.

Two of the accused, Lu and Wang, confessed to their crime. However, the two men, Yuan and Zeng, told the officials they had not been involved. However, Mr. Zeng accepted that he introduced the buyers, but he was not involved in the big crime which was kidnapping.

Meanwhile, Mr. Yuan stated that he was unaware of the sinister intentions of the others. The case is being heard by the court intermediates in Taiwan, Shandong Province, China.

Jiaru was reunited with his mother in 2023. Upon hearing this, he said, “No amount of money or apology can fix the pain that it has caused me.”

The case remains pending and has captured the attention of the whole of China.
