Sugar Myths vs. Fact: Unc ...
In this video, we have expert Pediatrician and Pediatric Gastroenterologist, Dr. Dhanasekhar Kesavelu, elaborating on the important role of sugar in our body. Sugar (carbohydrates) play an important role in promoting healthy organ function. All the vital organs in our body, such as our kidneys, brain, heart, and liver, are fueled by sugar. This is equally important for toddlers as their organs are still growing. The human body has an estimated 30–37 trillion cells and every single one of them needs a certain amount of energy for maturation. This energy is provided by sugar that you consume on a day-to-day basis, as well as that which is stored in the body. Our body needs energy for the development of neurons and neurotransmitters as well, which form the basis of cognitive development. This refers to the ability to think, reason, process information, communicate, and learn languages. Sugar (carbohydrates) is a very important source of this energy.
Note - Sugars as referred here are a source of carbohydrates and include all forms of sugars- lactose, maltose, fructose sucrose, etc.
