A Packet Of Chips Cost A 12-Year-Old His Life — “Maa, I Am Not A Thief” Reads Suicide Letter

How much does a packet of chips cost? ₹10? Or maybe even ₹20? But for this 12-year-old boy from Bengal, it cost far more than anyone could imagine — it cost him his life. Read on to know what happened.
Krishendu Das, a class 7 student was allegedly caught lifting a packet of chips from a shop in the absence of the shopkeeper, Shubhankar Dikshit at Gosaiber bazar. Quoting his mother, one of the primary investigators shared that the 12-year-old had called out multiple times for the shopkeeper but there was no response.
As he began leaving the shop with a packet of chips, the shopkeeper saw him and chased him down. He brought him back to the shop where he slapped him and made him do sit-ups as punishment, all in public sight.

The boy’s mother was also called and informed about the incident. She too scolded the child and slapped him. He kept saying that he had not stolen the packet and that he intended to come back later to pay when the shopkeeper was there. He was even willing to pay him on the spot but no one listened to him.
The humiliation left the little boy disheartened. Upon reaching home he locked himself in his room. Concerned, his mother sought help from neighbors. They broke the door open and found him unconscious, with froth coming out of his mouth. There was a note by his side, which read,
“Maa I am not a thief. I did not steal. Uncle was not around as I waited. While returning I spotted a kurkure packet lying on the road and picked it up. I love kurkure”
Krishendu was rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved. Investigations are going on, while the shopkeeper is absconding.
