Summer is here, so is the heat and if you have a baby of or under 6 months you certainly need to be very careful about his/her body. Excessive exposure of the sun during infancy raises the possibility of causing your child skin cancer, later in life. Also, there is a higher risk of having SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), if you often take your baby outdoors. It is because his/her body isn’t ready to regulate the temperature and easily gets dehydrated in a hot temperature.

Here are few best tips and ways to keep your baby cool, comfortable, and happy in summer...

  1. Keep Him/her Out Of The Sun

If you have an infant who is under 6 months you should keep him/her indoors rather than taking outside, especially during peak hours. During these hot days the heat stroke could be dangerous for your baby. So, it’s better not to take risk
  2. Choose Soft Clothing

Overdressing is one of the reasons to overheat the baby. Light cotton clothes with no strings and buttons are the apt options for your baby during summer. Organic cotton clothes are far better than the fuzzy clothes for your child’s sensitive skin. Strictly avoid furry clothes as they can irritate the body
  3. Choose Comfort Over Convenience

Disposable diapers are indeed more convenient than cloth nappies. However, these non-environmental diapers cause rashes and aren’t comfortable for your baby during summers, at all. Nonetheless, cloth diapers let the skin breathe and prevent to cause rashes
  4. Buy a Wide Sun-Hat

Get a wide-brimmed hat to protect your child’s head and face from the direct exposure of the sun. And remember it should be breathable and made of cotton which doesn’t even irritate the skin
  5. Avoid Heavy Oil Massage

It’s indeed essential to massage infant’s body; however, during summers you should highly avoid using heavy massage oils. Rather choose light oils such as olive oil or coconut oil as they easily absorb into the skin without weighing it down and your child will stay cool
  6. Time To Time Sponge Baths

In these boiling days of summer, you have to give your baby sponge baths a few times a day. And you should use plain water with no soap and no moisturizing oil. In fact, you should use lukewarm to cool the water and then sponge off and do not try to drench the baby in
  7. Chillier the Food Cooler The Child

Parents can give frozen breast-milk popsicles or fruit slices to their babies to snack on. Prepare recipes with millets such as Ragi, Barley water/cereal, or Bajra Moongdaal cereal. You can use cool spices like coriander, turmeric, fennel, and cumin while preparing food for the baby
  8. Put a Cotton Sheet or Lay Down While Breast-Feeding

When you breastfeed your child make sure that you have put a cotton sheet between you and him/her or you can lay down and then breastfeed. Direct contact of your skin with your baby’s may result in skin irritation. So, be wise and a cool mom!
