Police and immigration response
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Atharva Vyas entered the United States in 2023 on a student visa (F-1 visa).
His background includes prior legal trouble. Reports state that he was arrested three months after arriving in the U.S. on a University of Texas campus on charges of felony assault.
In 2025, his F-1 visa was reportedly revoked.
Authorities confirmed that Vyas was arrested on April 18 in connection with the alleged assault on the mother and child. The arrest came after local media coverage and police response to the incident.

ICE later stated:
“On April 18, 2026, ICE lodged a detainer requesting San Antonio turn Vyas over to ICE once he faces the American justice system.”
Official response from U.S. authorities
The case has also drawn strong comments from U.S. officials.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis stated:
“This criminal illegal alien brutally bit this child and caused her to lose two teeth. This barbaric assault against this woman and her three-year-old in a park was completely preventable.”
She further added criticism of earlier release decisions, saying:
“The Biden administration NEVER should have released this animal following his arrest for assault. We are working with our partners in Texas to ensure this criminal illegal alien never roams free in American communities again.”
At this stage, the case is still under investigation and judicial review. The final outcome will depend on court proceedings and legal findings.
