In a village near Chirayinkeezhu in Kerala, an ordinary night turned into an unthinkable tragedy for an eight-year-old boy, Dikshal.

Dikshal had gone to sleep like any other day. He was resting beside his grandmother and aunt, while his parents and younger sister were in another room.

No one expected that this would be his last night at home.

In the early hours of the morning, something bit the child while he was deep asleep. At first, he felt some discomfort. Then he woke up and complained of pain in his leg. When the family checked, they noticed some bite marks. Without wasting time, they decided to rush him to the hospital.

The family took him to the nearest hospital in Chirayinkeezhu. But there, they were told to take him to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Time was already slipping away. Despite being moved quickly, Dikshal’s condition worsened on the way. He did not survive the journey. He passed away before reaching the Thiruvananthapuram hospital.

A Family’s Shock And Unanswered Questions

For the family, the shock was not only about what happened, but how fast everything unfolded.

After the incident, relatives found a snake near the house.

According to reports, the house was in a marshy area with open spaces and unfinished walls, which makes it easier for snakes to enter the house.

What began as a normal night ended in a loss they never saw coming.

Concerns Raised About Medical Response

Along with the grief, the family has some unanswered questions. They have raised concerns about whether the seriousness of the situation was fully recognised at the first hospital. They said there were delays in treating the case as an emergency, and this may have cost precious time.

Officials have said that the matter is under review and an inquiry will look into the sequence of events.

Around the same time, other snakebite cases were also reported in the district. These incidents have brought attention to safety in rural homes, especially those close to fields and grasslands
