They Fixed a Price for Their 2-Day-Old Baby… But a Late-Night Call Stopped It
Published: 16 Apr 2026
A baby had just been born. He was only two days old. It was a new life and a new beginning for the baby as well as the family. But the family had different plans. Behind the walls of Lady Lion Hospital in Agra, there was a story unfolding that was very disturbing.
The baby’s mother had an agreement with a businessman to sell her newborn son. The deal was agreed at ₹2.5 lakh.
It was a well-planned deal. The buyer was expected to arrive at the hospital and take the baby away. Everything was set.
But there was someone who had a counterplan to stop this.
The Call That Changed Everything
It was a Friday night when a call reached Childline’s helpline number 1098. On the line was a woman named Rajkumari. In the call, she mentioned her son Manoj, who lived in Shastripuram, Sikandra and worked as a factory labourer. She also mentioned her daughter-in-law, Kumkum, who just gave birth to a baby boy.
But what she said next was not something the authorities expected.
She said that the newborn was being sold right after birth. A deal had already been made with a trader from Kamla Nagar. The buyer was expected to come to the hospital on Friday night itself to take the baby away.
When she had come to know about the deal, she was shocked and had decided to stop it any cost. She discussed it with the child’s aunt, and they both decided to call the helpline before it gets too late.
Just a few hours after the call, the Childline team reached the hospital along with the police.

Confrontation and Denial
When the police arrived, they met the parents of the newborn and questioned them about the allegations. But the couple completely denied the claims. They said the allegations were false and that some relatives were trying to create trouble.
However, the grandmother said that soon after the birth, some people came to see the baby at the hospital.
The situation was too serious to take any chances. The authorities took immediate action. The newborn and the family members were taken into custody and presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The case was reviewed by the magistrate. On Monday, the parents were asked to submit an affidavit explaining their side of the matter. Once the formal process was completed, the baby was allowed to stay with the family.
Though the crisis was stopped, but the questions remain – What would have led a parent to take such a drastic decision? Is it poverty or was there something else behind it?
The Power of Speaking Up
If the grandmother had not taken action, the story could have taken a different turn. A 2-day-old would have been taken forever.
It shows how even if one person decides to stand against evil, they can stop something wrong from going too far.
