Birthing - delivery

In Pune, a normal day turned into an emergency when a pregnant woman suddenly went into labour on a busy road. There was no hospital nearby and no medical setup available. Yet, a baby was safely delivered on a busy road with presence of mind and human cooperation.

The woman was in a public place when she suddenly started having labour pains. Things changed very quickly. There was no time to take her to a hospital.

Traffic was moving and people were around, but the situation couldn’t wait. Everyone realised that help was needed immediately.

In emergencies like this, hesitation is often the biggest risk. The bystanders and local residents did not wait for perfect instructions. They acted with whatever they had.

A doctor present at the scene immediately stepped forward to help. There was no proper medical equipment, no delivery room and no hospital bed. The only focus was on saving the baby and the mother.

There was no delivery room, which meant no privacy curtains.

Sarees become a shield of dignity

One of the most striking aspects of the incident was the use of sarees to create privacy. In the absence of hospital partitions or emergency screens, sarees were quickly arranged by those present to form a temporary barrier around the woman.

This simple act provided the mother privacy in a public setting and created a small space for the doctor to perform the delivery.

A roadside delivery under extreme conditions

With the support of the doctor and the nearby people, the baby was delivered safely on the busy road.

It was not an easy situation. The road was not clean and the circumstances were far from safe. Still, the delivery was handled with care.

This incident was not just about one doctor or one medical emergency. It was about collective action.

Strangers became support staff and bystanders became protectors of privacy. A public space became a temporary medical zone. People acted not because they are trained, but because they understood urgency.
