Many parents give pocket money to children as it is the simplest way to teach children about spending and saving. Shahid Kapoor’s wife, Mira Kapoor has something more to it. She believes children should learn how money is earned and why it has value.

She has two children, Misha and Zain. She tries to teach them lessons about money and saving through everyday things. She feels that financial education can start at an early age and children learn better when you teach them with basic things they do every day.

Why It Is Important To Teach Children About Money Early

Not many children understand how money works. They see adults shopping and paying bills, but they may not know how money is earned. For them, it’s just swiping the card to get their favourite things.
They need to understand that money comes from effort and hard work. And at the same time, they should know why saving is important.

When children learn these lessons at a young age, they grow up with healthy money habits.

Everyday Conversations About Money

One of the ways Mira Kapoor teaches her children is through simple conversations at home. She shares common incidents that happen at our homes and she uses them to inculcate saving habits.

For example, when her daughter receives money as a gift from family members, she does not allow them to spend it immediately. Instead, she talks to her children about what they can do with that money.

She informs them how they can be saved in a bank and you can get interest on it. Or they can save it for a later occasion when they can buy something they need.

The Baking Activity Lesson

There was a time when Mira once encouraged her daughter, Misha to set up a small baking stall where she sold cookies and muffins. It was a fun activity for her, but also a great learning experience. Through this activity, Misha learned how much money is needed to prepare stuff and how selling works. She got to know about profits.

During the baking activity, Mira also introduced her daughter to another important concept of borrowing money for a business. She explained that if someone borrows money to start something, they must sell enough to pay back the loan and then make a profit.

These small conversations slowly introduce children to ideas like saving, banking, and planning. These concepts develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

When we teach children during daily activities, it remains forever.

Parents do not need complicated methods to teach their children about money. Small daily habits can make a big difference.

These lessons may seem small today, but they can help children become financially responsible adults in the future.
