The Mystery of the Crying Child Solved

Behind every crying child, there is a mystery - or is there? Not for Sumitra. She has cracked the "cry code" of her children and is ready with armour (read:know-how) to face any situation. Here she tells us the 5 secret codes and her strategies to sail through minus the frown... 1. When hurt physically - The hurt or the accident is visible and the cry is loud, so I calmly walk across to assess the extent of injury. If it's grave then I tell the child that we need to see the doctor, they will experience pain and that I will help them handle it - it's worked for us. For all minor injuries, a hug and a gentle massage, without the panic, works like a charm.... 2. When there is an emotional need - The cry is inconsolable and followed by sullen or irrational behaviour that is not typical of the child. This is a tough one to gauge for nothing obviously went wrong, knowingly or in my presence. I know how my children behave in general. An off-the-line behaviour and associated crying is a signal that I need to dig a bit deeper. I tete-a-tete with the assurance that I will not judge them. Read on to know all the 5 situations and strategies to cope with a crying child...
