Social & Emotional

Sometimes, the most beautiful stories are the simplest ones.

An elderly man from Tamil Nadu has touched millions of hearts with something he does every year. He travels to his daughter’s home for Pongal, carrying gifts and love with him.

There is nothing fancy about it. Just a father doing what he has always done.

A Father Who Never Stops Being a Parent

Every Pongal, this elderly man travels nearly 14 kilometres to reach his daughter’s house. He carries sugarcane, fruits, and festival items and these are the kind of things a parent brings to say, “I’m here.”

His daughter is married and living her own life now. She has responsibilities, routines, and a home of her own. Many might think a parent’s job ends once their child grows up, but this grandfather shows a different truth.

In his eyes, she is still the little girl he raised, the one he cared for through sleepless nights, guided through school, and cheered at every milestone. That image never disappears, no matter how many years pass or how far she travels.

And that is what parenting really means. Isn’t it?

Love That Doesn’t Retire

Parenting doesn’t end when children grow up. It doesn’t stop after marriage, and neither does it fade with age. This grandfather reminds us that a parent’s love has no expiry date.

Even when the body slows down, the heart keeps going.

What makes this story special is how simple it is. He doesn’t do this for attention or praise.
He does it because love shows up every year, and without fail.

Sometimes, love is in small actions done again and again.

For him, Pongal is not just about the festival, it’s an excuse to be together. The gifts he carries are simple, but the meaning is deep.

This story brought back memories of festivals, home, and unconditional love. It showed us that real love doesn’t shout, it quietly walks miles just to be there.

A Parent, Forever

Psychologists often describe this as lifelong attachment. A parent’s emotional presence shapes how a child views relationships, trust, and care throughout their life. By continuing this journey for years, this grandfather is actively reinforcing that attachment. He is showing his daughter that she is loved and cared for, even as an adult.

This grandfather’s Pongal journey is teaching us the most important parenting lessons.  It's giving a message about being there for your child, again and again, no matter how old your child gets.
