School

It’s time to send your little one to school. You shop for the cutest school bag, water bottles, shoes and so on. You have a budget planned for their school.

But what if the budget you set aside is not even close to what you have to pay?

That’s the reality one mother recently shared.

The Nursery Fees

A woman from Gurugram posted about her child’s nursery fee online, which is ₹1,24,780 for one quarter.

Yes, this is the fee for just three months.

And this is not for a higher grade, this is for nursery. That’s nearly ₹3.5 to 4 lakh a year. It is fees for children learning A,B,C and 1,2,3.

Suddenly, the nursery does not feel so small anymore, right?

“We Studied Our Whole Life in This Amount”

When the woman shared the post, the comments section was full of its own story.

A common comment that came up was, “This is more than what I spent on my entire education.”

That’s when we realise how much things have changed.

When Did Nursery Become This Expensive?

There was a time when nursery was simple. Learning was basic with affordable fees.

Today, things are different. The definition of a good school has changed. Now a good school means air-conditioned classrooms, extra-curricular programs and other international curriculum exposures.

They are all important and every parent wants the best for their child, but at what cost?

What are parents paying for – better learning or better branding? And then it becomes a matter of prestige to get the best schooling for children. The pressure gets real for parents. And sometimes, this pressure makes them take choices that were not even a part of their plan.

The Mother’s Thought

When the mother posted about the fees, she mentioned something very thoughtful.

What if this same money were invested instead?

Over time, it could grow into something meaningful for the child’s future.

It was a simple thought but deep. The money we are spending on the fees for a child at a stage when they are just starting their learning journey can turn out to be a good investment if used otherwise.

Yes, school is also an investment for children, but it should be justified.

So What Should Parents Do?

There is no one right answer to this. Some find it manageable but for some, its difficult. And both are okay. Let’s remind ourselves that a child’s growth is not decided only by the school they go to. They are shaped by the environment they live in and the values they learn every day. They just need to build the right confidence to become a good human being and no fee structure guarantees that.

Expensive doesn’t always mean better and neither does simple mean any less. Every parent is just trying to do what feels right for their child.
