How to Take Care of Baby in Rainy Season
Read few tips on how to be ready your child for the coming monsoon season.
1. Build Immunity
Catch the cold before it catches you! Monsoon is the season for cold, flu and other air borne & water borne infections. It’s better to build a good immunity by giving foods which are rich in Vitamin C & other foods which help to boost your child’s immune system. Supplements rich in Vitamins can be given. However, it’s always better to take them in the form of fruits & vegetables.
2. Home is a Safe-zone
It’s usually cold & breezy outdoors when it rains. A sudden change in temperature will affect your child’s health. Keep the house dry all the time & keep the room temperature to moderate. Keep your house and surroundings clean. Use antiseptic liquids while washing your little one’s clothes & while cleaning the house. Make your house insect proof. Monsoon brings its deadly friend ‘mosquito’. Instead of using a mosquito coil which, might lead to smoke allergies, use mosquito nets or liquid. Teach him/her to use a sanitizer for hand wash. Give them a hot bath if s/he gets drenched in the rain. Keep their feet dry at all times. Get them used to wearing slippers or socks inside the house.
3. No Outside Food
Mommy is the best cook! We know that water borne infections like diarrhea & food poisoning are common during monsoons. We do not know the kind of water they use to prepare and store food outside. It’s better to give your child homemade food, where we can control the cleanliness and storage of foods. Get creative in the kitchen and make their favorite street foods in a healthy way!
4. No Getting Wet
It’s easy to control infants from not going out in the rain. But once your child starts walking it’s not an easy task. These days because of the high pollution, we cannot expect rain water to be safe. Do not let him/her play in the rain. Pack a raincoat & water proof shoes in her school bag. Whenever you are taking your little one to the mall, or a grocery store in the rainy season, carry an umbrella &rain coats
5. Let them enjoy as well some times
I would like to suggest that you take a few precautions, and allow yourself and your children to enjoy the rainy season. Have a happy monsoon ! Read tips to protect children during monsoon-time .
