How Do I Keep My Family Safe from Airborne Diseases?

I am a mother. And the most important thing in my life is to keep my baby safe. Being the mother of a 1.5-year-old daughter, I am constantly worried about how to keep her health well. These days, one of the things that I and all other mothers are worried about is keeping our children safe from airborne diseases – breathing problems and cough and cold being the most common ones.

Living in a big city has its own set of drawbacks – air pollution is one such problem. Not only are we breathing highly polluted air outside, pollution today has crept into our homes too. I know, it is not an easy fight to control outdoor pollution; however, I feel the air inside our homes have invisible enemies in the form of airborne viruses lurking around – and this is even more dangerous for my baby since she is always staying indoors!

Ways to Keep Family Safe from Airborne Diseases

It was alarming for me when I recently got to know that some children in the neighbourhood started having respiratory issues. It is shocking to see how small children are so susceptible when it comes to airborne diseases. That is when I started reading up on why infants and young children are getting more and prone to such health hazards. And everywhere I read about the ill-effects of dust, pollen, H1N1 virus and more. It was scary. How do you protect your child from these enemies when you cannot see them!

The place where I live is heavily polluted. Most of the children in my society are falling sick with asthma issues, viral fever, sore throat, runny nose and more. In fact, few children are frequently using nebulizers. It saddens me to see them suffer. And this is all because of air pollution. We can avoid going outside and close ourselves in our homes; but, what do we do when we are not even protected in our homes anymore?

As I started proactively looking for a solution, a friend of mine told me about the concept of air purifiers. There are a couple of them that are designed to tackle allergens. Air purifiers are also effective in removing certain airborne viruses too. In fact, some air purifiers are so smart that even if they detect a slight change in the air quality, they automatically boost themselves to do the extra hard work to clean the impurities in the air.

During office hours when the traffic outside our apartment is at the peak, it becomes very suffocating inside the house due to the pollution. But luckily the air purifier came to our rescue and now we can breathe fresh and pure air during those peak hours also. Trust me, mommies, this is what we need in today’s heavily polluted environment to keep our little ones safe - an air purifier, which will actually remove germs from the air in our homes and help our children stay safe and healthy.

Hygiene Tips to Prevent from Airborne Diseases

And of course, like they rightly say – prevention is better than cure, especially when it comes to falling prey to airborne diseases. Apart from ensuring clean, breathable air at home, make sure your child maintains hygiene like washing hands before and after eating, washing hands after coughing or sneezing, keeping indoor surroundings neat and clean, and lastly, ensuring carpets and blankets are regularly vacuumed and dry cleaned respectively.

And of course, when outside make your child wear a mask when passing through a crowded and polluted place. And always avoid close contact with infected people. Stay safe and keep your child safe too!
