Yami Gautam recently spoke about something very strong about motherhood. She said something that made her so relatable to working moms

“No matter what I do, the guilt is there.”

And honestly, that one line said everything. Because if you’re a working mom, you know this feeling all too well.

The Guilt That Follows Everywhere

Some days, you are at work, and your mind is somewhere else.

  • You wonder if your child is missing you.
  • You think about the homework that hasn’t been checked.
  • You worry if you should have stayed home a little longer.

Other days, you’re at home with your child. And yet, somewhere in the back of your head, you are thinking about missed meetings, delayed work, or opportunities slipping away.

No matter what you do, the feeling is there. Either way, the guilt shows up. And it is sometimes heavy. Yami spoke about how hard it is to ignore this feeling.

Why Mom Guilt Isn’t About Failing

The guilt isn’t about doing something wrong. It comes from caring too much. You care about being there for your child. You care about doing well at your job. You care about keeping your life together.

And caring too much can make you feel torn in different directions. But you can’t be everywhere at once. That’s why guilt is constant and that does not mean you failed.  It is just your heart involved fully in everything you do.

The Myth of “Having It All”

We often tell women that they can manage everything. But we don’t talk enough about what it costs emotionally. The constant second-guessing. The feeling that you’re always letting someone down, even when you’re trying your best.

In reality, no one can be everywhere at once. You can’t give 100% to your child, your job, your partner, and yourself all at the same time.

The expectation that you can manage everything perfectly is unfair and it adds to the guilt. Even when everything looks perfect on the outside, inside, the feeling is the same for every mom trying to balance work and family.

The truth is, even when you make the right choice, the guilt doesn’t disappear. You can plan your day perfectly and still feel unsure by the end of it.

And maybe that’s okay.

Maybe motherhood was never meant to be guilt-free. Maybe it’s just meant to be honest.

Finding Balance Is Hard And That’s Okay

Some days, you might manage a perfect balance. Other days, it feels impossible. And that’s part of being a mom.

The key isn’t to make the guilt disappear - it’s to accept it. To know that being a good mom doesn’t mean being perfect.

Yami didn’t say motherhood is unhappy. She didn’t say she regrets anything. She just admitted that this emotion exists and it’s hard to ignore.

If you’re a working mom reading this and nodding silently, you need to know this:

You’re not failing.
You’re not confused.
You’re not doing it wrong.

You’re just a mom who cares....

And most important, you are doing your best - and that’s enough.
