A scary incident happened at a school in Punnamoodu, Thiruvananthapuram. A student’s prank with pepper spray caused nine students and a teacher to be hospitalized. What started as a joke quickly became a serious situation.
What Happened in the Classroom?
The incident happened on October 15, 2025, during school hours. A Class XII student had found a spray can on a two-wheeler. Curious, the student sprayed it on the classroom floor after the break.
The classroom fan spread the spray fast. Students started coughing, feeling dizzy, and had trouble breathing. A teacher from a nearby class came to help and also got affected.
The school staff acted quickly. The students and teacher were first taken to the local hospital and then moved to the Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Thiruvananthapuram for proper treatment.
Medical Care
At the hospital, all the affected students and the teacher were monitored closely. Most of them were stable and getting better. One student, who already had breathing problems, was kept in the ICU to make sure they were safe.
Authorities also planned a chemical test to check what substance was used. The patients were under observation and received proper care until they recovered.

Investigation
The police said the student did not spray the chemical to hurt anyone. It was a prank that went wrong. The Regional Deputy Director of Education asked the school principal to report what happened.
The school said they would review safety rules and make changes to stop anything like this from happening again. Teachers will now check more carefully what students bring to school.
