A home that should have given her safety, but instead gave her pain.

This is one such painful case from Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman’s life turned into years of suffering inside her own home.

A Marriage That Slowly Turned Painful

Aradhana Shukla got married in May 2022. Like many women, she had dreams of a happy family and a better future.

But soon after marriage, things started changing. Her in-laws began demanding more dowry, even after receiving gifts and money during the wedding.

This time, the demand was big. They wanted her to get ₹10 lakh more. And when this demand was not met, she was being harassed. Every day she was living with the pain of being physically and emotionally assaulted by her in-laws.

When She Got Pregnant

The situation became even more painful when Aradhana became pregnant. It was the time when she deserved care and support. But even at that moment of life, she faced violence

Police say that when she was eight months pregnant, her husband kicked her in the stomach multiple times because of the dowry demand.

There came a time when things went beyond tolerance and she had to be taken to the hospital.

There, she lost her first unborn child.

The first pregnancy is always special and losing it can leave a woman devastated. And that too at no fault of hers.

Trying Again… But the Pain Did Not Stop

After this tragedy, her family members tried to help. With their support, Aradhana went back to her husband. She hoped things would improve and life would get normal.

But the harassment continued. They still continued with their demand.

In 2025, she became pregnant again. She started to live the dreams again that she lost with her first pregnancy. But things were again not in favour.

On September 20, 2025, she was assaulted again. The same demand of ₹10 lakh. Again, she was kicked in the stomach.

But this time, things were worse. Instead of taking her to the hospital, they took her away and left her in a helpless condition. They even threatened her.

Then her family finally rushed her to the hospital. But despite all efforts, they could not save her second baby.

She lost her second unborn baby as well.

A Complaint That Finally Brought Action

Aradhana later filed a complaint during a public hearing. Based on her statement, the police registered an FIR at the Gopiganj police station. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The accused include her husband, mother-in-law, and other family members. Police say they are currently absconding, and efforts are being made to find them.

Dowry is illegal. Yet in many places, it still exists in different forms. And when greed becomes stronger than humanity, women suffer and innocent lives are lost.

No demand for money is ever worth a human life. No amount of money can replace the loss of a child who never got the chance to live.
