Ayat’s biological parents Shaikh Naseem Ahmad and Nazia were separated owing to domestic disputes and the former's addiction problem. The couple had 5 daughters. While Nazia took 4 of them after the divorce, the youngest — Ayat — continued to stay with her father.

According to the reports, Faheem (35) who is a labourer, and his wife Fauzia (27) had 4 sons but they desired to have a daughter as well, and this is what made the former purchase 4-year-old Ayat from her father Naseem, for Rs 5000, with the help of a middleman. However, Fauzia was not happy with Faheem’s decision and they often used to fight because of it.

The couple allegedly started torturing the little girl as soon as they moved to Sillod. They not only beat her but also branded her with hot iron rods. Only the thought of a 4-year-old being subjected to such torture is enough to send chills down the spine.

When Ayat was taken to the sub-district hospital on Wednesday, her tiny hands and legs were broken. Her body could no longer sustain the pain and breathed her last.

Faheem and Fauzia attempted to bury her hastily to cover up their crime, however, someone from the neighbourhood allegedly tipped the police and they were able to stop them.

"Autopsy pointed to multiple injuries on Aayat's body. Fauzia told the police that she would beat up the child. While we have booked the couple for murder, we are also trying to ascertain if they adopted the child legally," shared one of the investigators.

Ayat was buried after the autopsy on Thursday.
