A quiet morning in a small area near Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district turned into a heartbreaking tragedy. Three-year-old Darshan was just playing outside their rented home. Within a few minutes, everything changed.

It was around 8 a.m. when Darshan stepped out to play. His father, Mohanraj, a carpenter, was nearby. For a brief moment, he went inside the house. And when he came back, Darshan was not there.

At first, the family thought the child may have gone somewhere nearby. They started looking around the house and the area. The family began looking around, calling his name, checking nearby areas.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

Darshan was found inside a septic tank within the house premises. The tank had a broken lid that was partially open, making it a hidden danger that was easy to miss.

Sources say the tank was about 10 feet deep. The child was taken out quickly, as soon as he was found.

The family rushed him to a private medical college hospital in Thandalam. But despite all efforts, he could not survive.

Hidden Dangers Around Our Homes

Septic tanks, wells, pits, and other open spaces can be extremely risky if there are children around. Many times, these are not properly covered or maintained. Usually, it is not treated as an urgency until something like this happens.

From the outside, everything may look normal. But one small gap or a broken lid can become life-threatening.

Children are curious. They move around freely. They do not understand these risks.

That is why safety around homes becomes even more important.
