Mumbai was shocked when a four-year-old girl was kidnapped from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), one of the busiest train stations in the city. Her parents were terrified, and a massive search by the police began. Thankfully, the little girl was found safe in Varanasi and reunited with her family.

The Kidnapping

The girl from Solapur, Maharashtra, was in Mumbai with her family so her father could get treatment at St. George Hospital. On May 20, 2025, while playing near the busy station, she went missing. Her parents were distracted for a few minutes and just in that span, the girl was taken away.

The family immediately informed the MRA Marg police station and station authorities. Thousands of passengers move around CSMT every day, which made the search very difficult. Social media posts and public appeals were shared to spread the word about the missing girl.

Police Investigation and Tracking

Mumbai Police acted quickly. CCTV footage showed a man carrying the girl and boarding a train. Using this, the police followed his movement through different railway stations, including Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), towards Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

In September 2025, Mumbai Police launched Operation Shodh. Around 50 officers worked day and night, checking CCTV footage, distributing posters, and even placing ads in newspapers. They also coordinated with Varanasi police, railway officials, and child welfare groups to find the girl.

The Breakthrough

A key lead came from a journalist in Varanasi, who saw a little girl in an orphanage speaking Marathi which was a language not so common in the area. Mumbai Police quickly went to the orphanage, checked her identity, and confirmed it was the missing girl.

On November 12, 2025, after completing formalities, the girl was safely taken from the orphanage. Her parents first saw her on a video call and were overjoyed. When they met in person, there were tears, hugs, and a huge relief.

The person who took the girl is still unknown, and the search for him is continuing. Authorities are working to make sure justice is served.

Technology and Public Help Made a Difference

CCTV cameras, fast communication between states, and public awareness campaigns were key to tracking the child. Social media, local journalists, and community support gave the police important leads. This shows that teamwork between authorities and the public can solve even difficult cases.
