Parenting Revelations: 6 Myths About Dads That Need To Be Busted
Social & Emotional

Fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects the man - Frank Pittman.

If you think that being a father is an easy job, it’s probably because you have not experienced fatherhood yet. It is often more demanding than people realize and with all the myths that revolve around it, it's no wonder many people have misconceptions about dads. In this blog, we have busted 6 common myths related to dads that prevail in India. Continue reading to be surprised.

Myth 1 - Moms Are Naturally Better At Parenting Than Dads

There is no evidence that suggests that moms are better at parenting. Historically, women were seen as the primary caregivers, who would look after the children, while the men went to work, but things have changed tremendously over the years and now, we live in an era where both parents are equally responsible for raising the baby.

Myth 2 - Men Are Never Enthusiastic About Having A Baby

The notion that men are generally less enthusiastic about having babies is not true at all. While some men may express initial hesitation due to personal concerns, like financial stability, this can be true for both men and women. I can certainly confirm that maybe not all, but a lot of men that I know personally are excited about becoming fathers and eager to start the new journey. It's important to understand that individual desires and experiences can vary.

Myth 3 - Dads Are Not As Sensitive As Moms When It Comes To Their Baby’s Needs

The journey to becoming a parent is new for both the mother and the father and it’s all about exploring and experiencing new things. It is not that men are insensitive, but some may require more time than others to adjust to this new feeling. Many dads do have a deep emotional connection with their babies and are as sensitive towards their baby’s needs as their partners.

Myth 4 - Dads don’t know how to handle babies

Dads and moms, both, need practice when it comes to handling the baby. With a little guidance and encouragement, they can surely ace it. I can say that from personal experience. My best friend's husband mastered diaper changing and bathing a baby before she did, and he is still in charge of these duties.

Myth 5 - Dads do not need support

Parenting can be overwhelming for both the parents and they both deserve proper support be it from each other, from the family, or even from the friends. Dads may not be too vocal about the challenges they face, but the experience can be really exhausting for both. So, rather than assuming things, we should be a little more considerate and supportive.

Myth 6 - Dads are bad at multitasking

"If moms are the queens of multitasking, dads bring their own unique strengths to the table. One may not necessarily be as good as the other but that’s what parenting is about. You don’t have to be perfect at something to be a good parent, you just have to keep trying. As they say, it is the effort that counts.
