What is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that affects how a person interacts with the world around them. Children with autism may have challenges in social interactions. They are not able to express themselves like other children.
But it’s important to remember that every child is different and has their own strengths and abilities. With early support, an autistic child can grow well and fulfil their dreams. All you need is patience.
Sonam’s Story
Sonam’s behind the scenes life was not as glamorous as it looked. When her son was diagnosed with autism, she felt scared and confused.
“I didn’t know what to do in the beginning,” she admitted. “You’re suddenly faced with words and labels you’ve never heard of, and it feels like the ground slips under your feet.”
In India, many families still don’t openly talk about autism. The stares and the lack of awareness make it worse.

“As a mother, your strength doesn’t come from applause or success,” she said. “It comes from your child’s little achievements, the things only you notice and celebrate.”
She puts it beautifully: “Tridev gave me fame. But my son gave me courage. Motherhood made me stronger than any role I ever played.”

Lessons For Parents With An Autistic Child

· The earlier you accept, the easier it becomes for you to mould them as per their capability.
· Celebrate the uniqueness. Your child might have some extraordinary skills that you will realise only when you spend time with them.
· Don’t struggle alone. Be part of parent groups and discuss it. It will help you fight the stigma.
An autistic child’s growing pattern might be different, but it is still beautiful. Every child has their own way of shining. Be patient and wait for their light to glow.
