Grammar essentials How to make sure your child learns English

Although making sure that you raise a child who reads is always important, if they don’t have the basics (ie, grammar) right, your child may fall behind in everyday communication!

Fortunately, there are lots of activities involving grammar essentials to strengthen your child’s grasp on the language. Some popular methods are listed below:

  1.  Scrabble
  2. Hangman
  3. Flash cards
  4. Sentence-forming games
  5. Puzzle sheets
  6. English Words Maze
  7. Match The Words
  8. Guessing games. For ex: think of a noun in your mind and describe it to your child, who guesses the word with hints, and then vice versa
  9. Cut up comic strips and ask your child to place them in the correct order
  10. Storytelling activities or impromptu speaking on any subject
  11. Simple exercises like speaking a word aloud and having the child say its past or future tense quickly
  12. For older students, make use of novels and newspaper articles

#ParentuneTip: With their short attention spans, the real challenge lies in helping children stay interested in the learning process, so try various activities until you find one they like.
