How Does An Environment Affect Your Child?
Created by Ekta Updated on May 30, 2019
The built environment affects children differently than adults. Every child should grow up in an environment where they feel safe and secure. And that's why the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), has undertaken an initiative in partnership with the Bernard van Leer Foundation (BvLF) to build Child-Friendly Smart Cities (CFSC) in India. The objective of this initiative is to pay attention to the needs of children and bring them in the urban policy and planning framework of Indian cities. It's a one-of-a-kind-project that will take into consideration four key themes: Public health, Safety and Security, Transportation/ Mobility and living conditions
This comic book is a part of the initiative and it is a representation of different experiences of children in cities, developed under the child-friendly smart cities initiative.
This collection of comic strips is a representation of everyday encounters and experiences of young children in cities associated with their ‘live’, ‘play’, ‘learn’ environments and how they ‘move’ from one to the other. These encounters are shaped by the design of the built environment which can either facilitate or hinder their free movement. Highlighting these small yet consequential details, this comic series helps you experience the city at 95cm, the height of a 3 year old.
