How To Prepare Squash For Your Baby?

How To Cook Squash For Baby Food
Oven roasting
- Peel the squash and scoop out the seeds
- Cut it into small chunks
- Preheat the oven to 176 C
- Grease the chunks with vegetable oil
- Place the pieces on a baking tray and roast for about 30 to 40 minutes
Steaming
- Cut the squash into small chunks
- Pour about an inch of water into a cooking pot
- Steam the squash for about 10 minutes until tender

Butternut squash puree

- Step 1: Cut the butternut squash in half and remove the seeds and skin
- Step 2: Cut the squash into small chunks and boil/steam until tender
- Step3: Put the boiled/steamed squash chunk in a blender
- Step 4: Keep adding water as necessary to achieve a smooth and thin like consistency
Squash and sweet potato mash

If your baby can have solid food then this sweet and tasty mash makes an excellent healthy and filling snack
- Step 1: Place the sweet potatoes into a cooking pot and boil on a medium flame for about 15-20 minutes
- Step 2: Preheat the oven to 176 C, grease the cubes with vegetable oil, and place the cubes on a baking tray and roast for about 30-40 minutes
- Step 3: Add the boiled sweet potato and roasted squash cubes in a large bowl and mash them well together. Add some water for desired consistency
Lentil and squash soup

Lentils are rich in proteins and when combined with bitternut squash it makes a filling lunch for your baby
- Step 1: Put the lentils into a cooking pot and cook on a medium flame for 30 minutes
- Step 2: Steam the squash cubes and let it cool. Add cooked lentils and steamed squash into a blender. Blend properly for a soup like consistency

Before you feed squash to your baby make sure your baby is not allergic to butternut squash. If after having squash your baby suffers from stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting etc. then avoid feeding butternut squash to your baby.
The recommended age for starting solid food is 6 months old. Squash is a wonderful addition to your baby’s first food. These recipes are appropriate for babies over 6 months.
